1] Gujarat :- The Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, popularly known as Motera Stadium, is set to become the world’s largest seating capacity cricket stadium. The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has handed the stadium’s renovation project to Larsen and Turbo (L&T). Presently, the stadium can house 54,000 people, but with the new plans, it is projected to seat about 1,10,000 people. This will almost double its seating capacity and will surpass the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which has a capacity of 1,00,024 people.

2] Stand up for someone’s rights today :- The Human Rights Day (HRD) is observed every year on December 10 to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The declaration was adopted and proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1948 as the shared standard benchmark to protect human rights across the world. The 2016 theme is “Stand up for someone’s rights today!”, which emphasises on peace and harmony with respect for each other’s rights.

3] Ravi Shankar Prasad :- The Union IT Minister Ravishankar Prasad has recently launched “Digidhan Abhiyan” to enable every citizen, small traders and merchants to adopt digital payments in their everyday financial transactions. During the campaign, citizens will be informed about various modes of digital payments by educating them to download, install and transact digital payments. Beside this, the IT Minister has also launched Digishala TV Channel. It is a free-to-air channel which will educate people about digital payment and is available on DTH service. The channel will encourage people for digital payment in their everyday life. The channel will be airing shows targeted at the rural and suburban population to inform them of various aspects of going digital like e-wallet, UPI, USSD, AADHAAR and usage of cards through talk shows and demonstrations. The services will initially be available in Hindi and English and later in local languages as well.

4] Nana Akufo-Addo :- Nana Akufo-Addo has won the presidential election of the Republic of Ghana with an absolute majority over President John Mahama by 53.8% votes. He will be sworn in as President of Ghana on January 7, 2017. Earlier, Akufo-Addo served as attorney general and then as foreign minister in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, which held power in 2001.

5] Hwang Kyo-ahn :- Hwang Kyo-ahn, who is the South Korean Prime Minister, has become the acting President after Parliament voted to impeach President Park Geun-hye on December 9, 2016 over a corruption scandal. Due to the ratification of Park impeachment proposal, Hwang Kyo-ahn has assumed the presidential powers and duties as acting president.

6] 7th :- India has been ranked 7th in the list of 163 countries most impacted by terrorism in 2015, according to the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2016 released by Sydney-based think-tank “Institute for Economics & Peace”. The list is topped by Iraq, followed by Afghanistan, Nigeria, Pakistan and Syria. The GTI score for a country is based on weightage assigned to the total number of terrorism-related incidents, fatalities, injuries and property damage sustained in the year in question. The index also takes into consideration attacks that took place in the 4 previous years.

7] Bishweshwar Nandi :- The book “Dipa Karmakar: The Small Wonder” has been authored by sports journalists Vimal Mohan, Digvijay Singh Deo and Dipa Karmakar’s coach Bishweshwar Nandi. The book will have many untold stories of struggle and triumph besides rare archival photos from the Karmakars’ private album as well as competition photos from the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. The book is set to release on August 2017.

8] Goa :- The first edition of Serendipity Arts Festival (SAF) will be held on the banks of river Mandovi in Panaji, Goa from December 16-23, 2016 to promote patronage of arts. The 8-day long festival will focus on performing, visual and culinary arts through a hundred events from the fields of music, theatre, dance, photography and food.

9] Ajit Mohan committee :- The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has recently constituted committee to fight against the menace of online piracy.The committee will be chaired by Ajit Mohan of Hotstar and co-chaired by Uday Sodhi of SET India and Salil Kapoor of HOOQ. The mandate of the committee is to safeguard the interest of the digital entertainment businesses. The purpose of the committee is to create a self regulatory code of conduct, create drafts for standards and good business practices, create public awareness measures to minimise online piracy and help with regulatory and legal interventions as and when required.

10] Ratan Watal committee :- The Committee on Digital Payments headed by Ratan P. Watal has submitted its final report to the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his office in New Delhi.The committee has recommended a medium term strategy for accelerating growth of Digital Payments in India with a regulatory regime which is conducive to bridging the digital divide by promoting competition, open access & interoperability in payments. The Watal committee has also recommended inclusion of financially and socially excluded groups and assimilation of emerging technologies in the market, while safeguarding security of digital transactions and providing level playing to all stakeholders and new players who will enter this new transaction space.
