1] Usain Bolt :-  A 9-time Olympic gold medallist, Usain Bolt from Jamaica has won the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) male Athlete of the Year award for a record sixth time. Beside him, Ethiopia’s Almaz Ayana, who broke the 10,000m world record by over 14 seconds in winning Olympic gold in 2016 Rio Olympics, won the 2016 IAAF female Athlete of the Year award.The awards were handed out by IAAF at a gala ceremony in Monaco.

2] December 2 :-  The National Pollution Control Day (NPCD) is celebrated every year on December 2 in India with an aim to make aware the people and industries about the need of Pollution Control Acts. This day is observed in the memory of those who lost their lives in 1984 due to the Bhopal gas tragedy and who were left severely affected due to leakage of poisonous gas “Methyl Isocyanate (MIC)” from Union Carbide plant in Bhopal. This catastrophe was the worst in the world’s industrial history and people there still continue to witness physical and mental disabilities.

3] Hockey :- Phulel Singh Sujlana, the former international hockey umpire and veteran administrator, has recently passed away, according to Mumbai Hockey Association Limited. Sujlana was the chairman of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) Umpires Board from 1985 to 1993 and chairman of its Technical Committee in 1985.

4] J Ravichandran :-  J Ravichandran has been appointed as the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). He will be in charge till the NSE board appoints a new CEO. Ravichandran succeeded Chitra Ramkrishna, who quit the post due to personal reasons.

5] Kolkata :-  Kolkata has been bagged the C40 Award for best solid waste management improvement project of 2016 during the C40 Mayors Summit held in Mexico City. The Kolkata Solid Waste Management Improvement Project has achieved 60-80% segregation of waste at its source. The project aims to eradicate open dumping and burning of waste and to limit the concentration of methane gas generated in landfill sites. Kolkata is the only Indian city to receive the prestigious award. The C40 Cities Awards recognise the best and boldest work being done by mayors to fight climate change and protect people from risks.

6] Achieving 17 goals for the future we want :-  The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed every year on December 3 to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities since 1992. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities inevery aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. The 2016 theme is “Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want”. This theme notes the recent adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role of these goals in building a more inclusive and equitable world for persons with disabilities. It has been celebrated with varying degrees of success around the planet.

7] Kehkashan Basu :-  Kehkashan Basu, a UAE-based Indian environmental activist, has won the 2016 prestigious International Children’s Peace Prize for her fight for climate justice and combating environmental degradation. Kehkashan, based in the UAE was presented the award by Bangladesh’s Nobel peace laureate Mohammad Yunus at a ceremony in The Hague, Netherlands. The International Children’s Peace Prize is an initiative of Marc Dullaert, Chairman and Founder of the Dutch Kids Rights Foundation, and is awarded annually to a child, anywhere in the world, for his or her dedication to children’s rights.

8] Addressing challenges, achieving prosperity :-  The 6th Heart of Asia (HoA) ministerial conference has started at Amritsar in Punjab on December 42016 with focus on tackling terror in region. The conference will discuss peace, cooperation and economic development in Afghanistan. The main conference has been inaugurated jointly by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.The Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will lead the Indian delegation. The delegates from nearly 40 countries will participate in the conference including India, China, Russia, Iran and Pakistan and representatives of 17 supporting nations were deliberating on a vast range of issues facing the region.The theme of the conference is “Addressing Challenges, Achieving Prosperity”.

9] Rakesh Asthana :-  Rakesh Asthana, the 1984 batch IPS officer of Gujarat-cadre, has been appointed as the interim Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He succeeded Anil Kumar Sinha. It is the first time in last 10 years that no new CBI chief has been named to succeed the current chief. The CBI chief is selected through a collegium comprising the Prime Minister, the Leader of Opposition or largest party in opposition in Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of India. The collegium has not been able to meet.

10] Uttar Pradesh :-  Bekal Utsahi, the renowned Urdu poet and former Rajya Sabha MP, has recently passed away in New Delhi. He was native of Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh. Utsahi was best known for his soulful and patriotic ‘Geet’, a form of poetic rendition popular both in Hindi and Urdu.
