Common Entrance Test is the common entrance examination conducted every academic year in all India level for candidates who wish to get admission in Management Programmes. Admission to B-School

CAT is the entry ticket for Business School. It is the most challenging and almost every MBA aspirants will face it at least once. As It is not a only door to get into B-School. Many of other exams such as MAT, XAT, CMAT and SNAP Exams also let your way to the IIM and Other Business School like IIFT and IRMA to Pursue MBA.

  Around lakhs of candidates are expected this year, CAT officials planned to allot up to 650 test centres. Based on the Mark Scored in this examination candidates will be selected for the Next Process such as Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Normally Cut OFF marks for CAT examination is above 90. What’s New in CAT 2016

As We all know CAT exam conducted every year for 170 Minutes. This year 10 Minutes of duration is added and the Total Duration of Examination is 180 Minutes.

Question Type is of Multi choice objective type in previous CAT exams. In CAT 2016, along with Objective questions some descriptive questions are also added. ( i.e. answer have to be typed in the space provided). Ten Percent of each section will have this direct answering questions.

No Negative Markings for Descriptive questions and One Mark deduced for Objective questions for wrong answers.

Previously the Syllabus Pattern consist of 100 questions from two Sections such as Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation(QA), Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension(VRC). But From CAT 2016, Pattern changed into three sections such as Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VRC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), Quantitative Aptitude(QA).

There is No toggling between sections while answering one Section.

Online Calculator is allowed to use Calculation in CAT 2016.

There is fixed Number of Questions from each of the section which given as below was introduced in CAT 2016.

CAT Examination Pattern

CAT examination consist of 100 questions which consist of 90 percent of Multi Choice Objective type Questions and 10 Percent of Descriptive test. In Objective type section, each of the questions which provide with four choice of answers. Candidate have to select any one of the answer in the computer screen using mouse point. Every Wrong answer will be deduce One Mark and Three marks for Correct answers. No penalty for any unanswered questions. In Previous CAT exams two sections were concentrated, Now the third section was included led to change in No of Questions as given above.

Descriptive Section of CAT 2016

It’s the New Section with CAT 2016. Officials announced No penalty for wrong answers in this section. 10 Percent of each session will be under this category. In this type of questions candidates have to use the keyboard to type the answers. As this is the first time of this pattern, No model questions are provided presently.

CAT 2016 Time Constrain

As the total of 180 minutes which is of 3 hours of duration is provided to answer 100 questions. Out of 100 questions 32 questions will be asked from Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) section, 34 questions from Quantitative Aptitude (QA) and 34 questions from Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC) sections with each section of 60 Minutes. Even if a Candidate finish one section with 40 Minutes and wish to attend next section have no way to switch to next section. As the time limit is fixed. Each of the candidates have to spend 60Minutes of duration for each section.

CAT Detailed Syllabus

Syllabus is the overview of topics covered by the examination. Every candidates who are preparing to get placed should first check the syllabus before starting preparation. Pre Plan of topics need to be prepared must pattern before preparing. Candidates who start their preparation have to concentrate first on the strength part of the syllabus. Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC)

VRC test is the basic criteria to check candidate’s capability to mark and correct grammatical errors and their capability toward the English Language. Vocabulary, Grammar, Verbal Reasoning of the candidates are checking in this section. Questions will be based on use of articles, prepositions use of modifiers, subject-verb agreement, parallel construction, phrasal verbs, redundancy .Some topics included in this test are Vocabulary Based (Synonyms Antonyms); English Usage or Grammar; Sentence Correction; Fill in the blanks; Jumbled Paragraph; Cloze Passage; Analogies or Reverse Analogies; Meaning-Usage Match; Verbal Reasoning; Summary Questions; Reading Comprehension; Facts-Inferences-Judgements; meanings of words; idioms and phrases; secondary shades of meaning, usage; associated words; antonyms.

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)

Logical reasoning is the test used to check the spontaneous of the candidate which work in a minute of time to take decision and help them to analyse your quick thinking. Some of topics are Number and Letter Series; Calendars; Cubes; Clocks; Venn Diagrams; Binary Logic; Seating Arrangement; Syllogism; Logical Matching; Logical Sequence; Logical Connectives; Relationship concepts; Analogies; Similarities and differences.

Data Interpretation consist of data provided in form of tables, graphs, and charts. In this section it is tested that how a candidate interprets the given data and answers the questions based on it. Some of Topics are Caselets; Tables; Bar Graphs; Column Graphs; Line Charts; Venn Diagrams; Pie Chart; Combination of two or more types linked.

Quantitative Aptitude (QA)

This section analyse the fast thinking and activity of brain in calculations. Some of the basic topics are Number Systems; LCM and HCF; Profit, Loss and Discount; Percentages; Speed, Time and Distance; Time and Work; Simple and Compound Interest ; Ratio and Proportion; Averages; Quadratic Equations; Linear Equations; Complex Numbers; Logarithm; Binomial Theorem; Sequences and Series; Surds and Indices; Inequalities; Probability; Permutation and Combination; Set Theory; Functions; Geometry; Mixtures and Allegations; Trigonometry; Coordinate Geometry; and Menstruation. To prepare for this topic, you need to do frequent practice.

Information for New Aspirants of CAT

The Examination will be conducted through Online mode in Computer. So the candidates should have some basic computer knowledge to attend the examination. It provide you the basic information before starting the exam. Candidates have to Note that they cannot able to switch between sections when they started one section. Candidates must be very careful which choosing which section should attend first. Each of the section will have fixed time of 60 Minutes. The Time duration will be shown as On Screen Timer continuously on Computer screen throughout the examination will let you aware and fasten up your performance.

A panel provided to show the status of questions in distinct four colours for the candidates ease to manage the questions answered and Unanswered. Each of the questions will be coloured based on the status as Green Colour – Answered Questions, Red Colour – Unanswered Questions, White Colour-Not Yet Viewed Questions, Violet Colour – Marked for Review Questions.

If a Candidate answered the question and marked it for review will show with a tick mark in violet background and if it was not answered marked for review will show in violet colour.
