The much awaited Official notification of the most competitive exam of India,  Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for the academic year of 2017 has been released. The official notification is released on June 2016 .The aspirants who started their preparation can apply the GATE exam through online from 01.09.2016 to 04.10.2016.Its not at all late as the examination are scheduled to held on 4th,5th,11th and 12th February 2017.So why wait..Go and start your preparation as you have solid 6 months.

About GATE 2017

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. GATE is one of the important exam for the engineering aspirants to get admission for Post graduate coursed(Master’s and Doctoral)with MHRD and other government scholarships/Assistant ships in Engineering and Technology /Architecture/Science are open to who those qualify in GATE exam. The GATE score is also used by several Indian Public Sector for their recruitment of engineers for the entry level positions. The Validity of Gate score shall be for three years.

GATE EXAMINATION 2017

GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of the Candidate. Examination for all the papers shall be conducted in online mode (computer based test).

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates with any of the following qualification are eligible to appear in GATE 2017.

  • Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2/ Post-B.Sc./ Post-Diploma) ,BE of Architecture(five year course),BE of four year science (B.S) and those who are in the final year of such programs.
  • Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and Candidates in the second or higher year of Four-year integrated master’s degree programs (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/ Technology.
  • Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year integrated master’s degree programs or Dual Degree programs in Engineering/Technology.
  • Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by iE(i), AMICE(i) by the institute of Civil Engineers (India)-iCE(i)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech.

Application Fees

Aspirants who are interested and eligible for the GATE examination have to apply through online on their official website. The Application fees is Rs 750/- for  all women candidates/PWD/SC/ST Candidates. For all the other candidates Rs 1500/- .The Application fees has to be paid only online either through net banking or through e-challan.

GATE Examination Pattern

Gate exam is a single paper online examination of three hours with 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. Question paper will consist of both multiple choice questions and numerical answer type questions.

In Gate AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PE, PI, TF AND XE papers. The weight age of marks is divided into three sections. Engineering Mathematics will carry around 15 percent of the total marks. General Aptitude section will carry 15 percent of the total marks. Remaining 70 percent of the total marks is provided to the technical section of the paper.

In Gate AR, CY, EY, CG, MA, PH and XL papers, the weight age of the marks is divided into two sections. General Aptitude section will carry 15 percent of total marks. Remaining 85 percent of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.

GATE 2017 Preparation

The Gate Exam for each paper covers more than 10 subjects and hence it is difficult to prepare for the GATE exam in one or two months. So Pre plan the studies before 4 months. Aspirants must do the Proper analysis of the Gate syllabus, such as subjects, topics of each subject and identify the order of subjects for preparation.

Key Point in order to prepare for GATE

  • Understand the GATE syllabus before preparing for exam. So that you cannot waste time in out of syllabus preparation.
  • Gather the important resources regarding each subjects of exam. Always give preference to Standard text books
  • Start your preparation with dedication and pre plan of order of subjects going to prepare. Also Plan strategy according to the time.
  • Make the revision notes of what you have prepared.
  • Practice mock tests and Quizzes to analyse your preparation level.

Always start preparing with the known subjects where you have good knowledge on it. It will save your preparation time and give you confident. Each day spend at least 3 hrs for revision and practicing,5 to 6 hrs for the preparation if you are attempting seriously.
