ONGC at a glance
ONGC is Oil and Natural Gas Corporation. It was established on 14 August 1956 by Government of India. It is involved in exploring for and exploiting hydrocarbons in 26 sedimentary basins of India, and owns and operates over 11,000 kilometers of pipelines in the country. Its international subsidiary ONGC Videsh currently has projects in 17 countries. ONGC has discovered 6 of the 7 commercially producing Indian Basins, in the last 50 years, adding over 7.1 billion tones of In-place Oil & Gas volume of hydrocarbons in Indian basins. Against a global decline of production from matured fields, ONGC has maintained production from its brown fields like Mumbai High, with the help of aggressive investments in various IOR (Improved Oil Recovery) and EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) schemes.
ONGC Recruitment 2016
Recently the ONGC has passed its latest recruitment notification in their official website. It was passed through the Advt. No. 6/2015 (R&P) on 19th September 2015 in Employment News and ongcindia.com. As per the notification they have opened up 417 vacancies in various fields to work with the ONGC and weight age will be given to those candidates who have got qualified in the GATE exam. ONGC Recruitment 2016 Eligibility Criteria
The following are the eligibility criteria for the ONGC Recruitment 2016.
- Educational Qualification: the authority has keep different educational criteria for different post. So it is advisable for the candidates to check on the official notification for the post wise educational qualification.
- Age Limit: The age limit of the aspirants who wish to taken up this recruitment is 18-30 years of age. And there is some age relaxation given to the candidates based on their category as per the norms of government.
ONGC Recruitment 2016 Selection Process
The selection process will comprise of the following:
- a) GATE – 2016: The desirous and eligible candidates having the essential qualification for the advertised posts should have appeared in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2016
- b) The GATE-2016 Score in the subject mentioned against the posts of ONGC will be considered by ONGC for short listing the candidates for the further selection process of Personal Interview as per the criteria decided by the Management.
- c) The final merit list shall be prepared based on the weight ages assigned to various parameters as follows:

- d) In order to be selected, candidates are required to qualify in the GATE-2016 and thereafter again in the interview separately in addition to fulfilling qualification criteria.
- e) In case the total marks for final selection are same then candidate who get more marks in performance (Weight age of GATE-2016 Score + Interview) is considered senior and if equal marks are scored in performance than the one older in age is considered senior for release of name.
- f) Departmental candidates shall be given first consideration in matters of selection, while other things such as qualification, eligibility and selection criteria etc. remain the same.
- g) Only GATE-2016 Score is valid for the recruitment exercise in ONGC under this advertisement. Score from GATE-2015 or from any previous GATE examination is not valid.
ONGC Recruitment 2016 Application Process
Eligible and interested candidates for the ONGC Recruitment 2016 would be required to apply ONLINE ONLY through the link which is provided by the authority in their official website. The following are the some of the steps to be followed.
- First the aspirants have to visit the official website www.ongcindia.com.
- The homepage of the official website will appear on screen.
- In that they have to search for “Online application for recruitment of Graduate Trainees (GTs) in Engineering & Geosciences disciples through GATE-2016”.
- By clicking on the link the application form will get open.
- Aspirants have to ill the application form correctly and they have to attach the documents that is been asked in the application form.
- After filling the application form they have to click on Submit button to submit their application form.
- Other than online mode No other mode of application will be accepted.
Things to note while applying for ONGC Recruitment 2016
- Candidates can apply for one post only even though they may be eligible for more than one post.
- If there is no post for reserved category, candidates belonging to reserved category can still apply for unreserved posts. However age relaxation will not be extended to them.
- Before registering/submitting their online applications on the website the candidates should possess the following :
- GATE-2016 Registration ID and Application ID
- Valid Mobile number in which the OTP will be sent for completing the registration process
- Valid E-mail ID.
- Scanned copy of recent passport size color photograph of the candidate with white background containing signature of the candidate in a small white sheet pasted just below the photograph (Not more than 70 KB size)
- No changes shall be allowed once the candidate has saved and submitted her/his online application.
- All correspondence with the registered candidates shall be done through the registered E-mail only. The candidates are required to keep the registered E-mail active at least for one year and also the Mobile Number used for receiving OTP.
- The candidates shortlisted for interview are required to upload the scanned copies of certificates at online application site for downloading the Interview Call Letter. All information regarding candidates shortlisted for interviews, uploading the scanned certificates etc. shall be available on the website of ONGC-www.ongcindia.com. No separate Interview Call Letters shall be sent to the candidates by post.
- The sole responsibility of uploading the scanned copies of certificates and downloading and printing of Interview call letter shall be that of the candidate.
