The Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) conducts the recruitment process for the post of Sub Inspector (SI) in Tamil Nadu. The recruitment process consists of a written examination, physical measurement test, endurance test, physical efficiency test, certificate verification, and viva-voce.
The written examination is conducted in two parts. Part I is the Tamil Language Eligibility Test, which is a newly added portion and consists of SSLC standard Tamil syllabus. This section is common to all the open and department quota candidates. Part II of the written examination consists of two parts, Part A and Part B.
Part A of the written examination tests the candidate’s general knowledge and comprises topics like General Studies, History, Geography, Indian Polity, General Knowledge, Current Affairs, and Economics. Part B of the written examination is the Psychology Test and includes Logical Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Information Handling Ability, Mental Ability, and Communication Skills. In addition to the above syllabus, department quota candidates will have to face a paper with subjects such as Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Indian Evidence Act, Police Standing Order, and Police Administration.
The written examination is worth 70 marks for open category candidates and 85 marks for department category candidates. The physical endurance test is worth 15 marks for open category candidates, while department category candidates are exempted from it. The viva-voce is worth 10 marks for both open and department category candidates. There are special marks worth 5 marks for both open and department category candidates.
TNUSRB SYLLABUS 2023 PDF :
The physical measurement test involves measuring the height and chest of the candidates. The minimum height for men in the OC, BC, BC(M), and MBC/DNC communities is 170 cms, and for women, it is 159 cms. For men in the SC, SC (A), and ST communities, the minimum height is 167 cms, and for women, it is 157 cms. The chest measurement should be 81 cms in the normal state, and it should expand up to 86 cms during full inspiration.
The endurance test requires men to run 1500 meters in 7 minutes, while women/transgender candidates have to run 400 meters in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Ex-servicemen/Ex-personnel of Central Para-Military Forces/serving persons who are going to retire within one year are exempted from the physical measurement test. They have to run 1500 meters in 8 minutes in the endurance test.
