• இமயமலையில் காணப்படும் மூன்று மருத்துவத் தாவர இனங்கள் IUCN சிவப்புப் பட்டியலில், ‘அச்சுறு நிலையை அண்மித்த இனப்’பட்டியலில் சேர்க்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. பொதுவாக ‘பட்வா’ என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிற Meizotropis pellita, உத்தரகாண்டைப் பூர்வீகமாகக் கொண்டது என்று சொல்லப்படுகிறது. இது ‘மிகவும் அருகிவிட்ட இனம்’ என வகைப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. Fritilloria cirrhosa ‘அழிவாய்ப்பு இனம்’ என்றும், Dactylorhiza hatagirea ‘அருகிவிட்ட இனம்’ என்றும் வகைப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

• வளம்மிகு மண்ணின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை சிறப்பித்துக்காட்டவும், மண் வளங்களை நிலையான மேலாண்மைக்காக பயன்படுத்துவது குறித்து எடுத்துக்கூறுவதற்குமாக ஆண்டுதோறும் டிசம்பர்.5ஆம் தேதி அன்று ‘உலக மண் நாள்’ அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. “Soils: Where food begins” என்பது இந்த ஆண்டு (2022) உலக மண் நாளுக்கானக் கருப் பொருளாகும். 2002ஆம் ஆண்டில் சர்வதேச மண் அறிவியல் சங்கத்தால் மண்ணைக் கொண்டாட ஒரு சர்வதேச நாள் பரிந்துரைக்கப்பட்டது. உணவு மற்றும் உழவு அமைப்பின் FAO மாநாடு கடந்த 2013 ஜூனில் உலக மண் நாளை அங்கீகரித்து பேரறிவிப்பு செய்தது.

• இந்தியாவின் முதல் கரிம–சமநிலை பண்ணையாக கொச்சியின் ஆலுவாவிலுள்ள விதைப்பண்ணையை கேரள மாநில முதலமைச்சர் பினராயி விஜயன் அறிவித்தார். கரியமில வாயு (CO₂) உமிழ்வைக்குறைத்ததால், வேளாண் துறையின்கீழ் உள்ள அவ்விதைப்பண்ணை கரிம–சமநிலையை அடைய முடிந்துள்ளது. கடந்த ஓராண்டில் மட்டும் அப்பண்ணையிலிருந்து வெளியேற்றப்பட்ட மொத்த கரியமில வாயுவின் அளவு 43 டன்கள் ஆகும்.

• இந்திய உணவுப் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் தரநிர்ணய ஆணையமானது (FSSAI) மரபணு மாற்றப்பட்ட (GM) உணவுப் பொருட்களுக்கான விதிமுறைகளின் புதிய வரைவை பொதுமக்களின் கருத்துக் கேட்புக்காக வெளியிட்டுள்ளது. 1% அல்லது அதற்கு மேற்பட்ட மரபணு மாற்றப்பட்ட (GM) மூலப்பொருள்களைக் கொண்ட உணவுப்பொருட்களுக்கான விவரங்களை பொருளின் பொதி அட்டையில் ஒட்ட இது முன்மொழிகிறது. • பௌத்தவனம் என்ற பௌத்த பாரம்பரிய நோக்கப்பூங்கா திட்டமானது தெலுங்கானா மாநிலத்தில் திறக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனை நாகார்ஜுனாசாகரில் தெலுங்கானா மாநில சுற்றுலா வளர்ச்சிக்கழகம் உருவாக்கியுள்ளது. நாகார்ஜுனா சாகர் அருகே பல்வேறு நாடுகளின் பௌத்த மடாலயங்களையும் பௌத்த பல்கலைக்கழகத்தையும் அமைக்கவும் மாநகராட்சி ஆய்வுசெய்து வருகிறது.

• மீன்பிடி, கால்நடை பராமரிப்பு மற்றும் பால்வளத்துறை அமைச்சகத்தால் தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட விலங்குகள் வதை தடுப்பு (திருத்தம்) மசோதா, 2022, பொதுமக்களின் கருத்துக்கேட்புக்காக வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. ‘அருவருக்கத்தக்க வன் கொடுமை’ என்ற புதிய பிரிவின்கீழ், “விலங்குப் புணர்வு” உட்பட 61 சட்டத்திருத்தங்களை அது ஒரு குற்றமாக அறிமுகப்படுத்தியுள்ளது. இது `50,000 முதல் `75,000 வரை அபராதம் அல்லது விலங்கின் மதிப்பு இதில் எது அதிகமோ அதனை அபாராதமாகவோ அல்லது ஓராண்டு முதல் மூவாண்டு வரை சிறைத்தண்டனை அல்லது இரண்டையும் குற்றத்திற்கான தண்டனையாக விதிக்க பரிந்துரைக்கிறது. விலங்கொன்றைக் கொல்வதற்காக, அதிகபட்சமாக ஐந்தாண்டுகள் வரை சிறைத்தண்டனையை விதிக்கவும் இவ்வரைவு மசோதா முன்மொழிகிறது.

• ரஷ்யா அண்மையில் வடமேற்கு ரஷ்யாவில் உள்ள புனித பீட்டர்ஸ்பர்க்கில் உள்ள பால்டிக் கப்பல்கட்டும் தளத்தில் அணுவாற்றலில் இயங்கும், ‘யாகுடியா’ என்ற பனி உடைப்புக் கப்பலை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியது. இந்த விழாவில் ரஷ்ய அதிபர் விளாடிமிர் புடின் மெய்நிகராக கலந்துகொண்டார். ‘யாகுடியா’ ரஷ்யாவின் ரோசாட்டம் ஸ்டேட் அணுவாற்றல் கழகத்திற்காக கட்டப்பட்டுவரும், ‘திட்டம்–22220 அணுவாற்றலால் இயங்கும் பனி உடைப்புக்கப்பல்கள்’ வரிசையில் வருகிறது. இந்த வகை கப்பல்கள் உலக அளவில் மிகப்பெரியவையும் சக்திவாய்ந்தவையும் ஆகும்.

• நொய்டா பெருநகரத்தில் நடைபெற்ற UNESCO–இந்தியா–ஆப்பிரிக்கா (UIA) ஹேக்கத்தான் நிகழ்ச்சியில் இந்தியக் குடியரசுத் துணைத் தலைவர் ஜக்தீப் தன்கர் உரையாற்றினார். இந்தியா மற்றும் 22 ஆப்பிரிக்க நாடுகளைச் சேர்ந்த இளம் தொழில்முனைவோர் பங்கேற்கும் இந்த ஹேக்கத்தானை கல்வி அமைச்சகத்தின் புத்தாக்கப் பிரிவு, AICTE மற்றும் UNESCO ஆகியவற்றால் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டதாகும்.

• ‘World Soil Day’ is being observed annually on 5 December to focus on the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for sustainable management of soil resources. The theme of this year’s World Soil Day is ‘Soils: Where food begins’. An international day to celebrate soil was recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences in 2002. The Food and Agriculture Organisation FAO Conference endorsed World Soil Day in June 2013.

• Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared a seed farm, located in Aluva in Kerala, as the first carbon neutral farm in the country. Reduction in carbon emission has helped the seed farm under the Agricultural Department achieve the carbon neutral status. The total amount of carbon emission from the farm in the last one year was 43 tons.

• The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has released a new draft of Genetically Modified (GM) Food regulations for public consultation. It proposes front–of–the pack labelling for packaged food products that contain 1 per cent or more of GM ingredients. No person shall manufacture, pack, store, sell, market or distribute or import any food or food ingredient produced from GMOs, except with the prior approval of the Food Authority.

• A draft Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Amendment) Bill, 2022, prepared by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, has been released for public comments. It has introduced 61 amendments in the law including “Bestiality” as a crime under the new category of ‘Gruesome cruelty’. It proposes fines from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 or cost of the animal whichever is more or with imprisonment of one year to three years or both for the offence of gruesome cruelty. For killing an animal, the draft Bill proposes a maximum punishment of five years in jail.

• Russia recently launched the nuclear–powered icebreaker Yakutia at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg in northwest Russia. The ceremony was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin via video link. The Yakutia belongs to a series of ‘Project 22220 nuclear–powered icebreakers’ that are being built for Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation. They are the largest and the most powerful in the world.
