• இந்தியாவின் நடப்பு நிதியாண்டுக்கான மொத்த உள்நாட்டு உற்பத்தி (GDP) வளர்ச்சி கணிப்பை 6.9 சதவீதமாக உலக வங்கி உயர்த்தியுள்ளது. 2023–24 நிதியாண்டில் பொருளாதாரம் சற்றுக் குறைந்த வீதத்தில் 6.6 சதவீதமாக வளரும் என்று உலக வங்கியின் இந்திய வளர்ச்சிக் கணிப்பு அறிக்கை தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

• கஜகஸ்தான் அதிபர் தேர்தலில் 81.3% வாக்குகளைப் பெற்று Kassym–Jomart Tokayev இரண்டாவது முறையாக அதிபராகப் பதவியேற்றுள்ளார். டோகாயேவ், 2019இல் தனது முதல் தேர்தலில் தனது முன்னோடி நர்சுல்தான் நசர்பயேவின் ஆதரவுடன் வெற்றி பெற்றார். நசர்பயேவ் கசக் மொழியில் ‘எல்பாஸி’ (தேசத்தின் தலைவர்) என்ற பட்டத்தைத் தக்கவைத்துக்கொண்டார்.

• 2021–22 கல்வியாண்டுக்கான ஸ்வச் வித்யாலயா புரஸ்காரை நாடு முழுவதுமிருந்து 39 பள்ளிகள் பெற்றுள்ளதாக கல்வி அமைச்சகம் அறிவித்துள்ளது. 8.23 லட்சம் பதிவுகளில், 28 அரசு மற்றும் உதவி பெறும் நிறுவனங்கள் மற்றும் 11 தனியார் பள்ளிகள் தேர்வுசெய்யப்பட்டன. ஆறு பரந்த அளவுகோல்களின் அடிப்படையில் விருதுக்கான பள்ளிகள் மதிப்பீடு செய்யப்படுகின்றன. அவை COVID–19 (தயார்நிலை மற்றும் பதிலளிப்பு நிலை), சோப்பினால் கைகழுவுதல், கழிப்பறைகள், செயல்பாடு மற்றும் பராமரிப்பு, நடத்தை மாற்றம் மற்றும் தண்ணீர் ஆகியனவாகும்.

• மும்பையில் உள்ள ஜவஹர்லால் நேரு துறைமுக ஆணையமானது இந்திய தொழில்நுட்ப நிறுவனம் – மெட்ராஸ் உடன் இணைந்து, தொடர்ச்சியான கடல் நீர் தர கண்காணிப்பு நிலையத்தை (Continuous Marine Water Quality Monitoring Station) உருவாக்கியது. தொடர்ச்சியான கடல் நீர்தர கண்காணிப்பு அமைப்பும் மின்சார கண்காணிப்பு வாகனமும் துறைமுகப் பகுதியில் கடல்நீர் மற்றும் காற்றின் தரத்தை நிர்வகிக்க உதவும். மின்சாரத்தில் இயங்கும் ஒரு சுற்றுச்சூழல் கண்காணிப்பு வாகனமும் (EV) துறைமுகத்தில் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

• World Bank raised its gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for India during the current financial year (FY23) to 6.9 per cent from 6.5 per cent.  The report forecasts that the economy will grow at a slightly lower rate of 6.6 per cent in fiscal FY24 from the earlier projected 7 per cent.

• The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) hiked the repo rate by 35 basis points (bps) to 6.25 per cent with immediate effect. The policy rate is now at its highest level since August 2018 and this is the fifth–rate hike by the central bank in this financial year. MPC decided to remain focused on the withdrawal of accommodative stance.
• The standing deposit facility (SDF) rate stands adjusted to 6.00 per cent and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate to 6.50 per cent.

• Cyclone Mandous lies over southwest Bay of Bengal, about 620 km southeast of Chennai. The storm is likely to cross the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh between Puducherry and Sriharikota. Under its influence, rainfall is expected over parts of coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh for two days. Red alert has already been issued for Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

• Lophopetalum tanahgambut is a newly identified tree species belonging to the genus Lophopetalum in the cosmopolitan family Celastraceae. It is a large top canopy tree that grows to 40 m tall, with a trunk diameter at breast height of up to 1.05 m. The new species is only known from peat swamp forests of the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

• The Ministry of Education announced that 39 schools from across the nation have received the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar for the 2021–22 academic year. Of the 8.23 lakh entries, 28 government and aided institutions and 11 private schools were chosen. Schools are evaluated for the award based on six broad criteria– Covid–19 (preparedness and response), hand–washing with soap, toilets, operation and maintenance, behavioural change, and water.
