  • Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers delivered the largest survey vessel built in India, INS Sandhayak to the Indian Navy on Navy Day 2023. INS Sandhayak is the first in a series of four Survey Vessels (Large) being built by GRSE. It is a new version of a previous ship with the same name, which was a survey vessel in the Indian Navy from 1981 to 2021. These survey ships are capable of full-scale coastal and deep-water hydrographic survey of port and harbour approaches as well as the determination of navigation channels and routes.

  • On December 5, Cyclone Michaung made landfall over Nellore in Andhra Pradesh as a super- cyclonic storm. A day earlier, the weather system had produced 150-200 mm of rain in north Tamil Nadu. In 2000, a panel of the World Meteorological Organisation with members of the UN Economic and Social Commission prepared the list of names of tropical cyclones in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, to be given from the September 2004 season.

  • The Indian Railways launched an Al-based surveillance system to prevent elephant deaths on railway tracks. ‘Gajraj System’ will be installed on 700 kilometres of route passing through forest areas. The technology, which was created by the railroads in association with a few start-ups, was implemented on a 150- kilometer section of Assam last year.
