Vacancy Details: This year, UPSC has announced a total of 167 vacancies for various engineering services. The vacancies are distributed among different categories and disciplines, providing ample opportunities for engineers to pursue a fulfilling career in the government sector.

Category I – Civil Engineering.

Category II – Mechanical Engineering.

Category III – Electrical Engineering.

Category IV – Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

The number of vacancies to be filled on the results of the examination is expected to be approximately 167 including 5 vacancies for the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) (4 vacancies for Locomotor Disability including Leprosy cured, Dwarfism, Acid Attack victims and Muscular Dystrophy and 1 vacancy for Multiple Disability). The number of vacancies is liable to alteration.

Reservations will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as well as Persons with Benchmark Disability Category in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the Government of India.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for the UPSC ESE Recruitment 2023, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Educational Qualification: (a) obtained a degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956; or
(b) passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); or
(c) obtained a degree/diploma in Engineering from such foreign University/College/Institution and under such conditions as may be recognised by the Government for the purpose from time to time, or
(d) passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or
(e) passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or
(f) passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959 Provided that a candidate for the post of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) and Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group ‘A’ may possess any of the above qualifications or the qualification mentioned below namely:-
For Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engg. Posts) – M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject.
For Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group ‘A’– M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a subject or Master’s Degree in Science with Physics and Radio Communication or Electronics or Telecommunication as a special subject.

Age Limit: Candidates should be between 21 and 30 years of age as of January 1, 2023. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1994 and not later than 1 st January, 2003.

The upper age-limit of 30 years will be relaxable up to 35 years in the case of Government servants of the following categories, if they are employed in a Department/ Office under the control of any of the authorities mentioned in column 1 below and apply for admission to the examination for all or any of the Service(s)/Post(s) mentioned in column 2, for which they are otherwise eligible.

The Upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST; 3 years for OBC, 10 Years for Persons with Disabilities (15 years for SC/ST PWD’s & 13 years for OBC PWD’s) and for Ex-S as per Govt. of India rules. Salary Structure: Candidates selected through UPSC ESE 2023 will enjoy an attractive salary package, along with various allowances and benefits as per government rules. The salary structure is in accordance with the Pay Matrix Level specified for the respective engineering services.

Selection Process: The selection process for UPSC ESE 2023 consists of three stages:

Stage-I: Engineering Services (Preliminary/Stage-I) Examination (Objective Type Papers) for the selection of candidates for the Stage-II Examination

Stage-II: Engineering Services (Main/Stage-II) Examination (Conventional Type Papers)

Stage-III : Personality Test

Preliminary Examination: The preliminary examination is an objective-type paper that assesses the candidate’s general awareness and engineering aptitude. It is a screening test to shortlist candidates for the main examination.

Main Examination: The main examination comprises two conventional papers related to the chosen engineering discipline. These papers are designed to evaluate the candidate’s technical knowledge and engineering skills.

Personality Test/Interview: Candidates who qualify in the main examination are called for a personality test or interview. This is the final stage of the selection process, where the candidate’s overall personality, communication skills, and suitability for the services are assessed.

How to Apply: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for UPSC ESE 2023 through the official UPSC website. The online application process will be open from September 6, 2023, to September 26, 2023. Applicants are advised to carefully read the official notification and instructions provided on the UPSC website before filling out the application form.

Application Fee: Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST/PwBD who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay fee of Rs. 200/- ( Rupees Two Hundred only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of State Bank of India or by using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card/UPI Payment or by using Internet Banking of any Bank.

Applicants who opt for “Pay by cash” mode should print the system generated Pay-in slip during Part-II registration and deposit the fee at the counter of SBI Branch on the next working day only. “Pay by cash” mode option will be deactivated at 11:59 PM of 25.09.2023 i.e. one day before the closing date ; however, applicants who have generated their Pay-in-slip before it is deactivated may pay at the counter of SBI Branch during banking hours on the closing date. Such applicants who are unable to pay by cash on the closing date i.e. during banking hours to SBI Branch, for reason whatsoever, even if holding a valid Pay-in-slip, will have no other offline option but to opt for online Debit/Credit Card or Internet Banking Payment mode on the closing date i.e. till 6:00 PM of 26.09.2023.
